He deals with John Smith of Smith, Payne and Smiths, and Bird/Savage often discounted with Smiths, In Nov 1799 Bird, Savage formed a house in New York at 156 Greenwich St, under name Robert Bird and Co, had been dealing with NY Merchants Murray and Mumford, and Lessingwell and Pierpont for a while, such products as nankeens, yellow cotton cloth from Nanking, cinnamon and coffee. Isaac Clason a prominent New Yorker they dealt with for the London market. When his mother's cousin died, one John Henry Mertins, this man came into property at Barking and Dagenham in Essex. in 1777, he becomes a partner with Anthony Francis Haldimand. at 51 St Mary Axe, Haldimand kept on his own business in his own name. Later at 11 Bury Court, St Mary Axe. the Haldimand partnership ended in 1782, when Bird joned with his younger brothers Robert and Benjamin Savage. He is the leading partner of Bird, Savage and Bird, from 1782. S. R. Cope of Bird, pp. 202ff. This firm pioneered the marketing of American Securities and discounted with Smith, Payne and Smith.
