4. Viscount1 Melvile, Board of Control, Politician MELVILLE Henry-24909 (Robert The Elder , Robert , Progenitor ) was born on 28 Apr 1742 in Scotland. He died on 28 May 1811 in Edinburgh.

Code-India. He is son4. Code-red. Parker, p. 197 of his essay on Scots in India in R. A. Cage, says, ""The origins of Dundas's interests in the Company's affairs [EICo] are obscure, but he seems early to have developed a genuine concern for Indian matters over and above the obvious potential value of the Company's patronage to his political control of Scotland for Pitt." Also, p. 197, Parker writes, "However, while Dundas undoubtedly achieved a position of hitherto unparallelled government ascendancy in the Company, the extent of his personal Indian patronage has been over-estimated both by contemporaries and later historians." He is Commissioner from 1784-1793 of the newly-established Board of Control for India, Treasurer of the navy, 1782-1783 and 1783-1800, [Note, Treasurer of the British Navy 1777-1782 was Welbore Ellis, Baron Mendip who was also Sec of War, 1762-1765, see GEC, Complete Peerage, Mendip, p. 657]. Lord of Trade 1784-1786, Gov Bank of Scotland till he died, Pres Board of Control for India 1793-1801, Elder Brother of Trinity House, Sec for War, July 1794-1801, when impeached, the motion had been led by brewer MP Samuel Whitbread, but he was acquitted of malversation. He is said to have borrowed £20,000-40,000 at a time from one Trotter his paymaster, who had advanced him £46,000 and purchased stock on Dundas' account, and accused of malversation of £134,000,000 of public money. Henry married (1) Wife1 RANNIE Elizabeth (Rennie) Divorcing-24910 daughter of David (Rennie) Of Melvile Castl RANNIE-18627 and RNOTKNOWN Miss-11601 on 16 Aug 1765 in Scotland,probably. Elizabeth was born in 1751. She died in 1843.

Henry married (2) HOPE Jean-8114 daughter of Earl2 Hopetoun HOPE John-8115 and Wife2 OLIPHANT Jean-8117 on 2 Apr 1793 in London.

6. Judge, The Younger, of Arniston DUNDAS Robert-11401 (Robert The Elder , Robert , Progenitor ) was born on 18 Jul 1713. He died in 1787.
